Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)
For those who struggle with addiction to opioids, medication-assisted treatment can be a useful tool on the road to recovery. While no medications can cure substance use disorders, several, including opioid agonists, have been FDA-approved to treat withdrawal symptoms and help curb cravings.

In addition, we keep the cost of rehab low for our clients. The cost for treatment of opioid use shouldn’t be a barrier for those who are ready to overcome substance abuse issues and opioid dependence. That’s why we accept Medicaid as well as private insurance.

How Medication-Assisted Treatment Works

MAT programs use pharmacological interventions (use of medications) along with behavioral interventions (counseling) to help those struggling with addiction to treat substance use disorders. This approach helps clients focus on their journey to recovery with less physical discomfort than treatment programs that only use therapy.

There are several medications we use at Lotus Recovery Centers to help our clients heal from substance abuse issues. These include Suboxone, Vivitrol, and methadone (available only in our Prices Corner, DE location).

All of these FDA-approved medications work to reduce cravings, minimize withdrawal symptoms, and reduce the risk of relapse and opioid overdose in the treatment of opioid dependence. However, they work in different ways:

  • Suboxone – Taken orally, this medication can block the effects of opioids while reducing withdrawal symptoms
  • Vivitrol – This once-a-month shot can treat both opioid and alcohol dependence by curbing cravings
  • Methadone – Used to treat opioid addiction, this medication can be taken each day to relieve pain, ease withdrawal symptoms, and is a part of medication assisted treatment for opioid use disorder.

Your doctor will determine which medication is right for you and our clinical team will provide ongoing monitoring to ensure that you’re receiving the right dose.

The Benefits of Medication-Assisted Treatment for Opioid Addiction

Why do we offer medication-assisted treatment in our West Virginia and Delaware recovery centers? We believe that this approach to treatment offers the best chance at long-term recovery. MAT Clinics don’t just swap one drug for another. Instead, they help relieve the discomfort and cravings that can accompany the early days of recovery so that our clients can work through the underlying causes of opioid misuse and develop healthy coping skills.

These medications can help those in addiction treatment programs by:

  • Relieving withdrawal symptoms
  • Curbing cravings
  • Helping clients focus on the underlying causes of addiction
  • Making the transition back to everyday life easier
  • Reducing the risk of overdose and relapse
  • Increasing treatment retention
